This Thangka depicts Green Tara, the compassionate female Bodhisattva revered as the Mother of Liberation. She is shown seated in a posture of readiness. Her right leg extended to step forward and aid sentient beings, while her left leg is folded in meditation. Her right hand is in the gesture of generosity (varada mudra), and her left hand holds a blue utpala lotus, symbolizing purity and enlightenment blossoming from compassion. The intricate background of swirling motifs and the depiction of Amitabha Buddha above her head reflect traditional Newar and Tibetan artistic influences.
